I Hear Mississippi Calling, the critically acclaimed latest release by The Jason Boone Band was recently nominated as " 2009 Bluegrass Album of the Year" by Just Plain Folks. The JPF Awards were started in 1999 as a simple way to recognize the best music submitted by members. JPF Founder Brian Austin Whitney felt the music made by the "other 98%" of the music world often ignored by the mainstream televised music awards shows deserved its own recognition. News from the Jason Boone Band!
Congratulations are in order to Jeff Boone and Don Robinson of the JBB! Jeff and Don competed in the First Annual ABBA Shrine Temple Fiddler’s Convention in Mobile, Alabama, held Saturday, October 25, 2009. Jeff won first place in the fiddle contest and Don took first prize in the banjo competition. Way to go, Guys! Also, Don, Jeff, and Michael Hyde competed in the “Best Band” contest and came in first! Additionally, Mike won the guitar prize. Congratulations, fellows!
JBB to RECORD LIVE! - June 19, 2009
The JBB is happy to announce that they have been approached and have come to an agreement with South City Records, a University of Southern Mississippi student-operated ran label to record their upcoming Petal Night of Bluegrass show for possible release on CD. The guys are excited about the possibility of a live recording and feel that it is the ideal next step for the group. “This is a great opportunity for us to allow our fans who may have yet to see the group in action to get a taste of what a JBB concert is really all about,” says Don Robinson, banjoist for the group. The band is working hard to get a large crowd for the August 22 taping and want to invite all MSBA members to come and bring folks with them to this very special event.

NOWELL JOINS JBB!! - May 20, 2009
The Jason Boone Band is very proud to announce the addition of Steve "Speed" Nowell to the group. Steve is certainly no stranger to Southeast bluegrass fans. He was a founding member of the very popular "Perfect Tyming", a group who traveled throughout the South as well as to many other parts of the country in the late '80s and early '90s. Steve has also has appeared and performed with the likes of Bill Monroe, Larry Sparks, and other great bluegrass artists. Steve's talents were much sought after during that period with inquiries from The Trio, Emmylou Harris (Nash Ramblers), The McCarters, The O'Kanes and others. After a 17-yr hiatus of establishing his career and raising his son, Steve returns to the music world to the elation of fans of the JBB! His many talents as a musician, including vocals, songwriting, performing, and arranging, not to mention his rock-solid timing and impeccable tone on bass, adds one more powerhouse piece to the JBB arsenal. Old and new fans alike will agree that Steve's joining the band is the final piece of the puzzle that will take The Jason Boone Band to even higher levels in the bluegrass world!
The JBB at SPBGMA! - February 16, 2009
The Jason Boone Band attended the 35th Annual SPBGMA Bluegrass Music awards in Nashville, TN held at the Sheraton Music City Hotel Feb. 12-15, 2009. The JBB also competed in the International Band Championship held during the SPBGMA event. The band placed eighth in the competition. Congrats' to our new friends Brand New Strings of Knoxville, Tn for taking first place. The JBB made many new contacts with promoters and DJs and is looking forward to a lot of bookings around the country!

JBB at Vancleave - May 13, 2008
We had a great time in Vancleave, MS at the Bluff Creek B/G Fest! Jason was a little late gettin' there but seemingly the show went off without a hitch. It was great to see and spend some time with our 2 great friends, Harold & Ovaline Andrews and others. We have a busy schedule upcoming-Tylertown on the 15th, private dates on the 17th and 18th, then Grace Baptist Church in Laurel on 06-01-08. Check our dates often 'cause we are adding more weekly!
